If you’re Jill Long Thompson, you have to want people to stop polling, it’s devastating to her case that people don’t support Mitch Daniels.  Last week Howey-Gauge released an August 28-29 poll, taken the day after Democratic National Convention, that showed Governor Mitch Daniels beating JLT 53-35 going into Labor Day weekend.  In Sunday’s Indianapolis Star, another poll of a younger demographic showed that Daniels beat JLT 66-29.

But to make matters worse, we’ve heard that on Friday, JLT called all TV stations and cancelled her media buy until further notice.  Her campaign has been funded by a few major special interests, most notably the pro-abortion group EMILY’s List and the SEIU.  Even these guys have to start thinking twice about flushing another six figure check down the drain.

Last week, JLT was in the field doing a push poll…you know, the kind where the caller asks the voter leading & biased questions like, “if you knew Mr. Smith killed kittens would you be more or less likely to vote for Mr Smith?”  Her strategy was to raise just enough money to stay up on TV through Labor Day, do a push poll around the Dem Convention and take this as evidence to the highest bidder….but that all changed when other credible polls show people (a) either don’t know her or (b) they don’t like her.  At some point the democrat party is going to have to kick her to curb to have any chance in house races and the presidential race.

Just for fun, we thought you might like to read how others have described JLT’s campaign since it began:

“Her most critical problems are time and money. Watching those six weeks between the primary and the convention come and go without much money, policy or union support consolidation is sending a message that the Hoosier Democratic house is not in order.”

“There are troubling signs for Thompson here. She managed to qualify her candidacy’s signature requirements just hours before the deadline.”

“She clearly has problems with labor. – which had been her forte as a congresswoman – as there is trouble with the UAW, possibly AFSCME while the FOP, firefighters, sheetmetal unions are supporting Daniels and there are divisions within building trades.”

But at a time when she needed credibility, there wasn’t an O’Bannon, Kernan or Schellinger around…”

“Jill Long Thompson has work still to do with the party faithful…”

“Is he supporting either Jim Schellinger or Jill Long Thompson? “No,” Bauer responded. “One’s a novice and needs a victory and the other needs a recent victory.”

“I’ve been asking acquaintances this: What’s the phrase that describes Thompson’s campaign? It’s a real stumper. Even some of her most loyal fans are at a loss.”

“But I am still having a hard time getting my mind around where Jill Long Thompson wants to take us.”

  1. So why did an ISPD plane have to fly to West Virginia
to pick the lil’ shrimp up from the lil shrimp’s West Virginia vacation home to fly the lil shrimp back to Indiana?

Did the lil’ shrimp actually get booed at the BSU-Navy
game when the announcer announced that the lil’ shrimp
    was in the stands?

  2. Yikes. I saw a pic recently of Dennie Oxley Jr. in a parade and the car he was riding in had a big “Oxley for State Rep” sign on it. Either he was out stumping for daddy or he’s not taking this LG thing too seriously (6 of one, half dozen of the other i guess…).

  3. 12:52, because the rules requires executive protection for the Governor. I doubt he or the executive detail loves having to spend 24/7 with him, but that’s just part of the package. Worked the same way when the other party was in power. I bet your mamma’s proud of the respect you show to elected leaders, too. The line between classy and juvenile is not that thin…

  4. Maybe Dennie thought that appearing in a hometown parade would help boost his name ID past 15% statewide?

  5. That’s all you’ve got isn’t it, 12:52? Little jokes about Mitch’s height. At least you get to make them for four more years.

  6. well guys, I did not make the small man joke, but the other day at the Hob Nob, I did have a tough time seeing both he and JLT….Andy seems taller but he is no giant…I thought they all should have been on a more elevated stage anyway

  8. I’m not sure anyone will waste any money doing any more polling on this one, anyway…
