Rep. Ed DeLaney was attacked when he met with a man this morning who he thought was a prospective client, according to an Indianapolis Star report.

Rep. Edward Delaney, an attorney and Democratic state representative from Indianapolis, thought he was meeting a prospective client on Catherine Drive near 131st Street, authorities said.

Carmel police say that his prospective client, Augustus J. Mendenhall, 38, Indianapolis, punched Delaney and wielded a gun. Mendenhall is being held in the Hamilton County Jail and faces several felony charges, including attempted murder.

Ann Delaney, Edward Delaney’s wife, said her husband had never met his attacker before today. He thought Mendenhall was interested in buying land in the area and wanted legal advice, she said.

The attack shocked Ann Delaney, who at first thought the call from the Carmel Police Department was a joke.

“This is so inexplicable,” she said. “We’re still trying to figure out what this is all about.” — Indy Star

Best wishes from us to the DeLaney family during this time and a quick recovery for Mr. DeLaney.

  3. Turns out that Ann DeLaney was Steve Goldsmith’s deputy while he was Prosecutor. Stevey launched a campaign against Burke Mendenhall and tried to seek forfeiture of Mendenhall’s property.

    • I don’t see where she took anything from this site. It looks like she had new information.

  7. Cases like this is why that slime dog Goldy had to have a police escort while both Prosecutor and Mayor, and why he moved out of town, the wimp. My sources in the legal community and from his days growing up on the northside tell me he was (and is) just a little prick. And poor Ed take the fall. Tell Ballard to watch his back, since Goldy is rumored to be actually running the city, God help us all. And Mitch was around on all of this Goldy stuff as well.

    • Goldy is the shadow Mayor, and the word is that he tried to get this property into DeBartolo’s hands, where Ed was the attorney, using his office, where Ann was his Deputy. Indy’s a dirty town, and paybacks are a beyatch.
